Practice Policies
Practice
Parents are asked to drop children off at the front entrance to the pool near the D&E Chapel. The balcony is open during practice times.
Please do not approach the coaching staff with general questions or concerns during a practice session. The coaches' attention to the lesson / practice plan for the day and the safety and instruction of the entire group should be their focus. A coach will make every reasonable effort to answer your questions outside of practice time. You may direct any question to the head coach after practice or via email at [email protected].
Davis and Elkins Facility Rules
Davis and Elkins College allows the Elkins Otters to rent the pool facility to provide adequate space for our program. In addition to the use of the George A. Myles Pool, we also have access to the locker rooms only if necessary. We have a usage contract with the College and work hard to maintain a mutual working relationship with the facility and the management. Please review the facility rules.
Swimmers and families must remember that Davis and Elkins College is a business and we are using mutual spaces during operating hours. Given this information, we need to come and go from the pool in an appropriate manner. The facility rules in regards to our swimmers and families are as follows:
- Swimmers need to enter and leave the building with a cover-up or other clothes over their swimsuits.
- Swimmers need to enter and exit the pool through the front entrance near the Chapel side of the college.
- Children should come dressed and ready to go to practice and should leave without using the locker rooms to change.
- The use of audio or visual recording devices, including a cell phone, is NOT PERMITTED in changing areas, rest rooms, or locker rooms.
- Swimmers should not use an excessive amount of time in the locker rooms; coaches will sweep the locker room after each practice session to ensure a safe environment for all.
- When arriving and leaving, please do not let swimmers or siblings climb on the chapel or play on the hill or in the gravel near the front entrance of the pool.
- Please assist with maintaining clean areas and replacing equipment used on deck during practice.
- After you drop off swimmers and as you pick them up, you may wait at the pool entrance; however, parents/guardians are not permitted to stand in the hallways during practices.
Parents and swimmers are expected to respect the rules of Davis and Elkins College and the George A. Myles Pool. Please ensure that any siblings of swimmers are also abiding by these rules.
Parent and Swimmer Conduct
Last, but certainly not least, we want our families’ experience with swimming to be an opportunity for personal achievement, growth as an athlete, and FUN! In order to provide that experience for all swimmers, we ask that all parents and swimmers follow our code of conduct. The established expectations for behavior provides important growth and developmental support of each swimmer and our program.
Please review the code of conduct for parents and swimmers with your athletes. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in disciplinary action.
